October 31, 1930 – January 25, 2025

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Isidore Guberman, a cherished Korean War veteran, beloved member of the Jewish community, and steadfast soul who lived a life full of resilience and dedication. Mr. Guberman passed away on January 25, 2025, at the age of 94.

Born on October 31, 1930, Isidore served with honor in the Korean War, showing unwavering courage during a time of great hardship. Following his service, he became a long-term patient at the St. Albans VA Medical Center, part of the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System, on Linden Blvd in Jamaica, NY. Despite enduring the effects of PTSD and dementia, Isidore remained strong and found solace in his Jewish faith. His love for the sacred yamim tovim was unwavering, and he was particularly uplifted by the sound of the shofar. His room was always adorned with a menorah during Chanukah, reflecting his deep connection to tradition.

Isidore's laughter and spirit were a testament to his strength, and he was the last of six brothers. The funeral included full honors for a U.S. veteran, reflecting the respect and gratitude for his service. This legacy of faith and resilience lives on through his family, including a great-nephew who had the distinct honor of accepting the American flag from soldiers on behalf of the President of the United States.

A minyan was held for him with great respect and reverence, thanks to the kindness of fellow Misaskim of Queens members Mordechai Lapp and HaChassan Elchanan Aronov. Rabbi David Ani, lead chaplain of the JWB Jewish Chaplains Council for the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, officiated the interment service. The interment service took place on Tuesday, January 28, at 1:15 pm at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Kew Gardens Hills.

May his memory be a meilitz yosher for us all, and may his soul be at peace.
