Chanukah was a bustle of activity throughout its eight glorious days. Our residents enjoyed the Yom Tov with Rabbi Zavel Pearlman, resident chaplain, and many family visits. The facility was decorated beautifully and was enjoyed by all. On the first night, we held our annual Chanukah party and menorah lighting with Rabbi Pearlman in the main floor synagogue. The festivities included entertainment, music, singing, and of course latkes and donuts as holiday treats. Mr. Izzy Root once again participated, distributing hats and scarves as gifts for our residents, a donation from the community. A menorah lighting took place each night with additional entertainment on the final night.

YCQ’s sixth grade boys stopped by to play Chanukah Bingo, which everyone found exciting. We of course sang many of the traditional Chanukah songs. The Chabad of Northeast Queens had their student body come by to spread Chanukah cheer by speaking with our residents one-on-one, sharing some Chanukah tunes, and making a beautiful art project for each resident to bring back to their room. It was surely a freilichen Chanukah for the residents of Margaret Tietz!

Margaret Tietz also spread Chanukah delight throughout Queens neighborhoods, helping to host parties at the Young Israel of Queens Valley Senior Center, Young Israel of Forest Hills Senior Center, and Common Point›s Central Queens YM-YWHA Senior Program on 108th Street in Forest Hills. Latkes, donuts, appetizers, and desserts were supplied, as well as entertainment in some sites. Chabad of Northeast Queens also received these staple treats for their Chanukah party, which included students, staff, and community members.

During this “Holiday of Miracles,” Margaret Tietz wishes the community many miracles and for all of kal Yisrael the miracle of light and peace.
