Joint Statement from Assemblyman Sam Berger And Councilman James Gennaro
Assemblyman Sam Berger (D-Kew Gardens Hills) and Councilman James Gennaro (D-Queens) issued a joint statement last week announcing New York City Department of Transportation’s revocation of recently imposed parking changes in front of Wasserman Supermarket, located on Main Street in Kew Gardens Hills.
Both the Assemblyman’s and the Councilman’s Offices have fielded persistent complaints from local residents since new traffic signage and restrictions were implemented by the NYC DOT a few months ago. Amongst the top complaints was the overnight installation of a “Truck Only Parking” resulting in the loss of parking spaces for seniors and disabled individuals in front of the highly trafficked kosher market.
We are pleased to announce that the NYC Department of Transportation has reversed the recently imposed parking changes at Wasserman Supermarket. This decision is a testament to the power of community advocacy and a shared commitment to ensuring that the needs of Kew Gardens Hills residents are heard and addressed.
“We want to thank the community for their engagement and persistence in voicing their concerns. Your dedication has made it clear that the government functions best when it works hand in hand with the people it serves.
We will continue to prioritize policies and measures that aim to support our local community and improve the quality of life for all residents.”
Previously, the DOT restricted all passenger vehicles from parking in front of Wasserman – the alternations will now allow for passenger vehicle parking: M-F 12:00 midnight to 8:00 a.m. and all “Truck Loading Only” restrictions will now be removed Friday-Sunday.
The changes come after Berger recently hosted NYC DOT personnel for a walkthrough on Main Street to review and provide recommendations to correct the unwelcome changes affecting the community.
