Nude lipstick can be paired with anything from a smoky eye to a most casual look achieved with a swipe of liner, blush, and mascara. The main thing is to find a lipstick that flatters your complexion. This will create chic, effortless magic and instant gratification.  The trick is to find the nude shade that’s slightly darker than your skin tone, yet works in a complementary fashion.  When a lipstick color is too light, it can make you look sickly and pale. When lipstick is too dark, it no longer looks natural. Therefore, pay attention to your skin’s undertones in order to find the right match.

If you have cool or blue undertones, you will most likely look best in pinky nude tones. Those with warmer or olive complexions, tend to look better in peachy nudes.  Anyone with neutral undertones can basically go either way. You can always test the color on your cheeks or on the inner part of your fingertips to see if the color is complementary to your skin tone. If it completes with your complexion, it will not work for your lips either

Shiny formulas, which have reflective qualities and project more light, are often a better option. They therefore look prettier than matte, nude shades. Warm toned, nude rosy, and browns can also work wonders for fair, medium and deeper skin tones.  Other options for medium to darker skin tones include, warm berry/ pinks and nude browns.

When wearing nude lipstick, always use a lipliner two shades darker than your skin tone to prevent you from looking washed out. The purpose is to create some contour and contrast around the lips. A bit of makeup is also necessary to balance out a nude lipstick. Otherwise, you may look pale or sick.

If you want your eyes to be the focal point of your face, nude lips can certainly do the trick.  For those that are not into eye makeup, you may need to apply a bit more rosy blush or a more vibrant lipstick to make you look awake.  Although nude lips have been a very popular trend over the past few seasons and work wonders for many, they are not meant to be a one size fits all.
