In The Blizzard, acclaimed author Susie Garber has penned a new and unique genre of literature tailored to the audience of young Jewish adolescents and adults.
The book alternates between a contemporary story of a young girl, Shani Kantor, and her family and friends; her relatable scholastic career choices of writing versus coding; and simultaneously, the historical fiction story of a Jewish family that lived through the famous blizzard of 1880 and a young chasan and kallah whose wedding almost did not happen because of the snow that caused a train wreck in Vermont. The book is filled with intrigue and suspense regarding the safety of Shani’s father on his trip to China, as well as the secret of his vaccine that could save millions of lives being at risk of getting into the wrong hands. How to escape the evil criminals and gangs will keep the reader engaged, and how the two separate storylines interconnect is compelling. It is an exciting read for the young (and not-so-young) adult (I enjoyed it).
IY”H, there will be a book signing at Gift World on Main Street on Sunday, May 10, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The Blizzard and Susie Garber’s other books will be available as well.
