In honor of Yom HaShoah, the students of Bnos Malka Academy’s sixth through eighth grades had the special privilege of hearing from Mr. Ephraim Berger, grandfather of sixth grader Aliza Tropper. Mr. Berger shared the extraordinary and moving story of his parents’ survival during the horrors of the Shoah. He recounted the miraculous escape of his father, who crossed a bridge to safety just moments before it was blown up. Mr. Berger also spoke about his mother’s incredible resilience, surviving the unimaginable conditions of Auschwitz alongside a group of relatives.

The Yeshiva of Central Queens (YCQ) marked Yom HaShoah and honored the victims of the Holocaust with meaningful ceremonies led by our students, featuring survivor testimony, film, song, and t’filah.

On Wednesday evening, the HALB fifth-grade choir sang beautiful and meaningful songs at the community Yom HaShoah program at Congregation Beth Sholom. They then had the opportunity to stay and listen to Mr. Paul Gross tell his story about surviving the Holocaust.
