The countdown to the final days of school is on at the Yeshiva University High School for Girls (Central), and students are already looking toward their next chapters. The final AP exams took place this week, leadership sign-ups for next year’s clubs and organizations are underway, and the Class of 2026 is out of the building experiencing a rite of passage for YUHSG seniors: senior internships.

Now in its third year, the internship program is an extension of the school’s longstanding Senior Seminar program, providing valuable work experience and on-the-ground training for soon-to-be graduates. Wildcats are interning in a variety of fields, including education, video game design, physical therapy, nonprofits, state legislative offices, and retail.

Senior Talia Butbul has been serving as a speech therapy intern at Shell Bank Middle School. “I learned how speech therapists use activities like videos and coloring to help build language and comprehension skills,” she said.

Senior Shirel Shaool has been working as a jewelry appraisal intern at Saidian Vintage Jewels. “I learned that the value of jewelry depends on so many little details, like the composition of metals and the clarity of the diamond,” she said. “If it is a vintage piece, it could be worth a lot, depending on its history.”

Hailey Aspir has been immersed in a machine learning engineering internship at Cantor Fitzgerald. “I made progress on developing AI skills that turn LLMs into experts for specific tasks,” she said.

Wildcats are receiving rave reviews and nachas notes across all industries. Seniors will present their experiences at an internship expo on the YUHSG campus on Friday, May 29.

On Friday, May 15, YUHSG celebrated Yom Yerushalayim. The high-spirited festivities reminded everyone of the crucial significance of the day, marking the 1967 reunification of Jerusalem. This year’s event was planned by Mrs. Yael Axelrod (Director of Israel and Religious Guidance, Senior Grade Dean, and Judaic Studies faculty member) alongside the YUHSG G.O. It served as the G.O.’s finale event of the year, capping off months of dynamic, meaningful programming.

To celebrate the day, YUHSG hosted its own Jerusalem Marathon, complete with a 5K run, as well as a pickleball tournament. The day concluded with a sweet treat from Rita’s Ice Cream Truck. The event raised money for HaOgen L’Miluim, an organization that lends support to the families of IDF reservists serving away from home.

We are halfway through a month of fun, bonding, and learning before June brings finals and summer break. Coming up next week are Shavuos celebrations, with schoolwide and grade-wide trips following the week after. These include YUHSG’s first annual Boat Bash, where the school community will celebrate spring by sailing around New York City, and the junior class trip to Hershey Park. The annual senior trip, taking the Class of 2026 to South Jersey, will take place during the first week of June.
