On Tuesday, Rosh Chodesh Adar Alef, Shevach Menaheles Mrs. Shulamith Insel, in her inimitable manner, introduced a special speaker to her student body. Not a sound was heard for over an hour as Rabbi Avrohom Goldstein addressed the school. Rabbi Goldstein is a ger tzedek, originally from Puerto Rico. He gave up his “freedom” to pursue what he knew was emes: true Yiddishkeit. In Puerto Rico, he observed an empty life in the people around him and knew he wanted more.

The First Grade students at the Bnos Malka Academy took part in a milestone event: the First Grade Siddur Play. Not only did each girl preform beautifully and receive her first siddur, they each decorated their own siddur cover. The presentations included an exploration of the siddur through song. It was indeed remarkable how much they have learned. Mrs. Herzberg and Mrs. Stochel, the first grade moros, did a wonderful job preparing the girls.

Learning in Bnos Malka Academy’s preschool is always fun, exciting, and authentic. During the “In Our Neighborhood” theme, students learned about all the different types of community helpers we rely on and the various places in a community. The big idea that teachers focused on with students was how we all rely on each other when we live in a community and we work together for the good of everyone in the community.

The HALB Bar Mitzvah breakfast was a beautiful celebration for the seventh grade boys, their parents, and rebbeim. The morning was filled with song, divrei Torah, delicious food, and energetic dancing! Mazal Tov!

Four HALB 7th graders, nominated by HALB, have been selected to be part of The Tikvah Fund’s Truman Scholars Program. They will take part in its high-level learning program for outstanding Jewish Day School and Yeshiva students nationwide. Max Isaacs, Jacob Torczyner, Arielle Katz, and Talya Paul are excited to take on this incredible opportunity to learn about Israel and the country’s relationship with the United States.

Central has the unique opportunity of being part of the Yeshiva University family. Last week, the Senior class had the opportunity to visit the Beren Campus at Stern College in Midtown Manhattan, followed by a visit to the YU Seforim Sale, in Washington Heights at the Wilf Campus. They were welcomed at the Stern Beren campus with a tour, a student panel featuring Central alumnae, and lunch. The students really enjoyed the opportunity to see former Central students and ask them questions about what their experience has been like at Stern College. This trip provided them with insight on what the college experience at YU is really like,” said Mrs. Rena Boord, Director of College Guidance at Central.
