Eyeliner for Hooded Eyes

A hooded eye can overpower the lid.  You therefore need to try something bold. A classic cat eye or winged eyeliner will work well. The trick is to apply it thicker, so it’s visible. A long-lasting liquid eyeliner is effective with this type of eye, and won’t wind up migrating where you don’t want it.

Eyeliner for Almond Eyes

This eye shape is the most versatile and allows you to apply eyeliner any way you want. If you’d like to try something new and fun that’s out of the box, try a dual eyeliner combo. Use a black pencil to trace your upper lashline. You can then place a vibrant color liner right above the black. For a cool vibe, try using white above the black.

Eyeliner for Round Eyes

With round eyes, you will notice that the whites of the eye are more prominent, so have fun playing up the contrast. You can opt for a smokey eye look with extra eye shadow emphasis on the outer corners going into the crease. This will also serve to elongate the shape of the eye. Apply eyeliner along the upper lid and lower lashline for intensity, then smudge with a brush or finger to create a more smokey look.

Eyeliner for Monolid Eyes

This eye doesn’t have a pronounced crease. It is therefore best to extend your liner outside your eye. Choose a super exaggerated, winged look for intense shape and definition. Use a long-lasting liquid eye liner and draw smooth even lines, beginning at the inner corner of the upper eyelid and move outwards. You can also get the inner corner involved by extending your liner past the inner corner. You can dab some light highlighter there to brighten up your eyes and make them look larger as well.

Eyeliner for Oval Eyes

This type of eye shape has total flexibility. You can be creative, since you have unlimited options. You can try a daring color instead of black. If you have hazel eyes, you may like purple; for brown eyes reach for emerald; and gray eyes may be enhanced with a cobalt color. For extra impact, line both top and bottom.

Eyeliner for Small Eyes

The goal is to enhance and enlarge these eyes.  Applying white or beige eyeliner in your inner waterline should do the trick. For the lashline, you can choose brown instead of black. This is less harsh and wont close in your eyes. Also, remember to smudge it into your lashline in order to make the lashes appear fuller, which is an eye-opener for small eyes.

Eyeliner for Deep-Set Eyes

With deep set eyes, it’s best to avoid applying eyeliner in the inner corner of your eyes in order to make them look brighter and more open. Therefore, start your line at the outer corner of your eyes to frame them well. Stop your line 1/2 or 2/3 of the way across your lids.

Eyeliner for Close-Set Eyes

In order to create an illusion of eyes set further apart, you need to place the emphasis on the outer eye.  Begin applying your liner in the middle of the eye and move it outward. Using a long-lasting eyeliner, draw smooth, even liners starting from the middle of the eye and move the brush tip outwards. The more elongated the wing, the bigger your eyes will look.

Eyeliner for Wide-Set Eyes

A clean line of eye liner on top and bottom, with a short, upward wing is ideal for those with wide-set eyes.  A waterproof gel pencil is very effective and can be smudged out to complete the look.

Eyeliner for Downturned Eyes

These eyes tend to look droopy, tired, or sleepy. You will want a thick, winged look. Start at the inner corners of the eye to emphasize your shape. When you get about 2/3 of the way on your lid, start drawing your wing upwards rather than tracing the actual shape of your eyes, which actually turn downward. By having a bold wing, you will reshape the eye, making you look much more awake.

Eyeliner for Upturned Eyes

This eye basically has a built-in winged look. You have a choice whether you’d like to draw attention to this or not.  You can simply trace your lash line with a gel pencil. Since your eyes already turn upwards, it can be complementary to trace your bottom lashline too.

Eyeliner for Asymmetrical Eyes

There are numerous people with asymmetrical eyes, and applying eyeliner correctly can make them appear more symmetrical. Begin by lining your lager eye. Next, apply liner to the smaller eye, mirroring the look, in order to make it appear wider and more symmetrical to the first eye.  For best results, use a long-lasting gel pencil with a sharp point.

As you will note, applying eyeliner is not a one-size-fits-all. Therefore, it’s best to customize your eyeliner in accordance to the shape of your eye. This will do wonders to enhance your eyes and make them pop and look beautiful.
