On Monday, November 25, MTA’s Sports Management Club enjoyed a private tour of Citi Field, including the ballpark, offices, clubhouse, and operations center. Talmidim met with David Hayob, Senior Director of Corporate Partnerships for the Mets, and learned about all of the details that go into planning a major sporting event. One of MTA’s most popular extracurriculars, the Sports Management Club regularly hosts speakers from the sports industry and takes trips to stadiums across the tri-state area.

On Motza’ei Shabbos, November 23, the fourth grade girls participated in the first ever m’laveh malkah at the Yeshiva of Central Queens. The atmosphere was fun-filled and interactive. The program was a Mother-Daughter-Grandmother event. The fourth grade girls made creative art projects with their moms and their grandmothers. Aliza Milchman said, “I loved working on the project with my mom. I did half and she did half.” There was amazing food for the m’laveh malkah and laughter throughout the night.

The Kanfei Yud Beis 6th Grade Bas Mitzvah Program is underway at the Bais Yaakov Academy of Queens. It began with a surprise breakfast in the gym, which was beautifully set up and decorated. The girls were introduced to the “Kanfei Yud Beis” – Wings of Privilege Program, to invoke the attitude of privilege and potential when turning twelve and becoming a bas mitzvah. Mrs. Jurkowitz, Limudei Kodesh principal, began the program by recounting her own bas mitzvah experience. She then described the story of the bird that discovers that its heavy wings, when used correctly, are, indeed, not a burden, but the greatest gifts for soaring high. Each girl was able to relate to her own “wings of privilege” represented by the Torah and the mitzvos, which should never be looked upon as a burden, but rather to be fully utilized as a bas mitzvah.

MTA’s Rabbi Baruch Gopin brought learning to life for his Sophomore Shiur on Tuesday, November 26, as his talmidim learned first-hand how to repair an eruv. Rabbi Gopin and his talmidim also helped install new poles for the Washington Heights eruv during this incredible experiential learning opportunity, and enjoyed giving back to the community.

The 4th grade girls at HALB donated over $100 in much needed art supplies to the children at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Thank you to Kira Neuberg and her family for delivering the supplies to the very excited children at LIJ.
