The Bnos Malka preschool spent an engaging afternoon learning how a stalk of wheat becomes flour and then into matzah. Each student took her turn hand-grinding wheat kernels into a fine dust of flour. The children turned the crank of the heavy stone mill and saw the flour fall to the base of the mill. Taking flour, they added water, formed the dough, and enjoyed rolling out their own personal matzos. They certainly enjoyed eating their custom, not-kosher-for-Pesach creations.

Hadar Bet Yaakov girls performed to a sold-out theatre last Wednesday evening with their first major production of The Hidden Miracle, an original musical play written and directed by Mrs. Shaindel Antelis. With the assistance of Yaffa Lamm, CIJE STEM coach, Mrs. Leah Karr has begun a unit of gardening with the oldest students of IVDU LI. The students assisted Mr. Dovid Moshayev, physical therapist, in constructing the garden bed, physically building the structure, and adding in the soil. Students used shovels, hoes, and rakes to prepare the ground and lay out the new soil in preparation to plant vegetables.

The children at HALB’s Lev Chana Early Childhood Center had an amazing time as they used all their senses to experience first-hand the mitzvah and hard work involved in making Matzah Shmurah. The children learned that shmurah means to watch and take care that the wheat remains dry throughout the growing and making process.
