Those who didn’t watch the debate performance last Thursday night still have a chance of blissful ignorance that the President of the United States is not an escaped hospice patient suffering from advanced senility.  The rest of us, however, can harbor no more delusions about Joe Biden’s mental faculties.  There is a power vacuum at the head of our country, and that was on full display on Thursday night.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt at a fairground rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. One bullet grazed his left ear and others whizzed past him, one killing retired volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore, 50. He died heroically, protecting his wife and daughter.

When a neighborhood is in high demand, institutions respond to growth by expanding. Three years after I moved to West Hempstead, the streetscape continues to change. Our spiritual scene includes new and expanded shuls, the renovated mikvah, and a new campus for the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County. As families grow, their homes expand to accommodate more children or grandparents. My block is a mix of homes whose exteriors haven’t changed in a half century, and modifications with additional floor space. On the northern edge of the community, residential developer Heatherwood is constructing Heritage Westminster, a complex of 428 luxury rental units, at a cost of $428 million.

On the first day of the Republican National Convention, shortly after officially receiving the Republican nomination for President of the United States, former President Donald Trump chose junior Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio to be his running mate. It’s a pick that shows both the confidence of the Trump campaign and the potential longevity of the MAGA movement.

Ignore what the media is telling you, ignore the Democrat Party and donor class; Joe Biden - barring some medical emergency - will be the nominee in November against Donald Trump.  He has no desire to leave the race, all the money is behind him, all the primary votes are in his corner.  There is no methodology to forcibly remove him from the ticket.  He’s going to stay, so Democrats are going to double down on trying to elect him.

Shots were fired at former President Donald Trump, and only through a miracle did he survive them. By now, everyone must have seen the footage of the assassination attempt, and the quick head tilt that was the difference between having a nominating convention this week or a Civil War. It was a shocking moment in American history, but for anyone who has paid attention in the last decade, it is not surprising.
