It certainly was a busy and meaningful week at Bnos Malka Academy. The school ushered in Rosh Chodesh Shvat by inviting Rabbi Mordechai Ginsparg, Menahel of the Bais Yaakov Academy of Queens, to speak to the middle school. Rabbi Ginsparg asked: Why did bas Par’oh even try to stretch her arm for Moshe in the teivah? There was no way she could possibly reach him. He explained that that is precisely the point: It is our job to do the most we can; it is our hishtadlus that can make all the difference.

The Early Childhood Department at YTM wished Rabbi Chaim Schauder, Executive Director, a warm, happy birthday this past week. The boys signed decorative posters for the occasion!

Chodesh Sh’vat was ushered in at Yeshiva Tiferes Moshe’s Early Childhood program with a fun and educational program. The boys gathered in the dining room after discussing the name of our new chodesh and the special Yom Tov of Tu BiSh’vat. The boys brainstormed to think of the many things we get from trees: from delicious fruits to paper and fresh air. Thank You, Hashem, for all these wonderful items that are derived from trees!

Yeshiva Har Torah’s Hebrew Language Coordinator, Morah Ariana Mizrahi, orchestrated an exciting initiative dedicated to honoring Hebrew as a vibrant, spoken language. Partnering with Jewish day schools across the nation, the event aimed to fill the students with pride and joy in the Hebrew language. With the theme of S’fat HaKodesh and Eretz HaKodesh – the holy language and the holy land – each grade eagerly participated in tailored activities, spanning early childhood, elementary, and middle school. Students sang the song “Am Yisrael Chai,” taught to them by their Hebrew teachers. There were a number of creative activities, such as decorating bookmarks and writing postcards for the students, carefully curated by the Hebrew Language teachers.

Mr. Richard Altabe, HALB Lower School Principal, attended the OU mission to Washington this past week with Senators and Representatives to advocate for Israel and the Jewish people. He was part of a group of people from the Five Towns who met with our Representative, Congressman Anthony D’Esposito. Mr. Altabe asked the members of the OU to wear the number 96 to mark the number of days the hostages have been held in Gaza, as requested by Rachel, mother of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who is still being held hostage. After Mr. Altabe’s suggestion, Rabbi Hauer presented Senators with their own 96 stickers, many of whom agreed to wear it.
