Although smoky eyes have always captured attention, they often made a strong statement. This season’s smoky eye has evolved into a softer and more wearable option. The way that the matte, satin, and shimmery shades blend together can certainly be a work of art.  Here’s a simplified way to take this eye makeup look one notch up.  Instead of opting for the usual charcoal shades, the updated version stars metallic shades like gold, silver, and copper, which illuminate and transform the eye instantly.

  1. To achieve this look, you need to begin by applying an eye primer. This will help prevent shadow migration, and the eye makeup will stay put all day. Then, set with loose powder or a light and neutral-colored eye shadow.
  2. Swipe a gold, silver, or light coppery shadow along the lashlines and diffuse (lighten the color) as it slides towards the crease, or above for more impact. Be sure to cover the entire lid. You would then need to use a tapered crease brush to coat your crease in a complimentary metallic brown shade and blend outward for a smoky effect. If you never wear gold tones and look best in silver jewelry, you will fare better with a silver smoky eye.
  3. To give your statement eye a little more punch, trace a black liquid eyeliner along the upper lash line. Next, follow and trace the liner along your upper lash line, and wing the outer edges by extending upward into a slight cat eye.
  4. Coat all your lashes well with mascara to complete the smoky look.
  5. For extra enhancement, go back to your shimmery gold or silver lid color and place it in the inner V of the eye, to illuminate and brighten the eyes.

With a bit practice, this softer and newer version of the smoky eye is easy to achieve. So have some fun and experiment with this hot trend on a cold winter evening out.
