Do you have a post-high-school daughter who is looking to somehow get the authentic seminary experience and yet also complete their college education at the same time? Well, you have no need to fear – because the opportunity has now arrived! The Queens Jewish community is proud to now have in their midst Tiferes Bnos Yisroel (TBY) – a Bais Yaakov seminary which features a full Jewish curriculum as well as a fully-developed approach to making college a real and practical possibility.
Let’s backtrack. TBY might be new to Queens, but it’s not really a new seminary in any sense of the word. TBY was actually founded over twenty years ago, by Rabbi Yaakov Y. Greenberg in Brooklyn. After teaching and educating hundreds of young ladies with four parallel tracks for almost twenty years, the request was made to see if TBY would be willing to come service the Queens community. The request was accepted, and Tiferes Bnos Yisroel made the move. TBY is now located in the heart of Kew Gardens Hills, and has joined forces with Netzach Outreach to connect to the great numbers of Jews that Queens has throughout its many communities.
In a short period of time, TBY has pulled together a fantastic staff, many of them being local rabbanim, mechanchim, and mechanchos. Teachers include Rabbi Aryeh Sokoloff, Mechaneches Mrs. Shaindel Simes, Rabbi Dovid Delman, Rabbi YY Rubinstein, Rabbanit Amit Yaghoubi, and of course, the Menahel - Rabbi Yaakov Y. Greenberg.
In Rabbi Greenberg’s words, “Many parents are concerned that learning in seminary interferes with college education. But in our case, it’s simply not true. Our seminary doesn’t only provide a full spectrum of hashkafic and halachic classes, but it also helps the girls finish college faster! The students can do our college program, or a different one, but the point is that we make it work for them. It’s really a win-win for everyone involved.”
TBY is proud to provide real-life training for our girls, who will complete the seminary year/s feeling much more capable of leading a Torah life. Whether it’s hashkafah or halacha, Yomim Tovim or Parsha, TBY graduates will get everything they need to be well-rounded and knowledgeable Jews.
With regard to college, the seminary offers more than one option. There is both a one-year program, as well as a two-year “Shanah Bet” program. In just two years, students can earn a Bachelor’s of Science from Bellevue University as well as a Teacher’s Certificate. Additionally, TBY credits can be used towards the college of your choice. Our girls can excel and earn degrees in Special Education, Mental Health, Teaching, Business, Computers, and most other professions as well.
In addition to the educational programs, TBY also works to ensure that the girls have a great social life! Our staff arranges all sorts of extracurricular activities, including but not limited to: Shabbatonim throughout the year, Rosh Chodesh events every month, guest speakers who deliver shiurim or workshops, trips, and Yom Tov chagigos as well! The sounds of learning and laughter are always found in the seminary halls, and it is clear that TBY is doing great work!
In conclusion, Tiferes Bnos Yisroel is a significant and welcome addition to the greater Queens community.
