The joy of Chanukah is brought to a new level by the work of Chabad and its network of menorah lightings. Queens has welcomed this tradition each year. Rabbi Mendy Hecht of Chabad of Forest Hills North lights the menorah at Yellowstone Municipal Park in Forest Hills. Ahead of his major event this upcoming Sunday, December 5, beginning at 3:15 with a live DJ, bike show, and gelt coin drop, the rabbi has been on hand to light the menorah each evening.
Rabbi Mordechai Z. Hecht of Anshe Sholom Chabad JCC has led Chanukah in the Gardens with a menorah lighting at Station Square in Forest Hills Gardens. Rabbi Hecht was also on hand for the lighting ceremony held in conjunction with Queens Borough Hall this past Tuesday evening. There, friends and community members gathered for potato latkes, dreidels, chocolate gelt, menorah giveaways, and joyous music on the front lawn of Queens Borough Hall. At that program, Rabbi Shaul Wertheimer of Chabad on Campus of Queens led with the invocation, and elected officials also took to the mic to spread the light of Chanukah. Rabbi Yossi Blesofsky, Director of Chabad Lubavitch of Northeast Queens in Bayside, was honored with the lighting ceremony.
