Several local synagogues in Jamaica Estates/Holliswood have joined together to host a Chanukah celebration and candle lighting ceremony on Sunday afternoon, December 22, at Cunningham Park. The event, sponsored by six leading synagogues in the area, including the Young Israel of Jamaica Estates, Young Israel of Holliswood, Bet El, Anshei Sholom, Khal Bais Yitzchok, Bukharian Community Center of Jamaica Estates, and the Bukharian Chai Center, will feature a fire show, a BMX bike stunt show, and various local musicians, including Avi Benjamin.
Over 800 attendees are expected to attend, rain or shine. “We are calling the event Unite with Light,” explained Rabbi Shmuel Kogan, director of the Bukharian Chai Center. “This is an amazing opportunity for everyone in our community to gather together to celebrate the Chanukah spirit together.” The event will be held at the Cunningham Park parking lot located at 196-10 Union Turnpike from 3:45 p.m. through 5:45 p.m. Traditional jelly doughnuts and hot potato latkes will be distributed. Free parking is available and admission is free.
