Excitement and anticipation were in the air at the Bais Yaakov Academy of Queens as all classes viewed a pre-recorded video of the Midos Program Opening Assembly. Despite each class watching the presentation on their own SmartBoard, there was a sense of achdus and ruach as the school-wide program was viewed simultaneously by all first through eighth grade classes. Mrs. Nechama Jurkowitz, limudei kodesh principal, introduced the theme of the year Tav Shin Pei Alef (5781) with the pasuk “HaPaam Odeh es Hashem – This time I will thank Hashem.” The year-long theme is OPPORTUNITIES OF APPRECIATION. Our motto is “A Time to Think and Thank.” This year our spunky redheaded mascot, named Yehudis, will be encouraging the girls to focus on the positive and be grateful and appreciate.

On Tzom Gedaliah, Central hosted its first ever “Zoom-Iyun,” a morning of online learning to mark the fast day. The program began with a “T’shuvah Round-Robin,” in which faculty rotated among five Zoom breakout rooms and shared insights on Tzom Gedaliah and the t’shuvah process. Thank you, Mrs. Rivka Alter, Rabbi Josh Goller, Mrs. Karen Lavner, Rabbi Zvi Lew, and Ms. Leah Moskovich for their divrei Torah.

With the Yamim Nora’im fast approaching, classes and activities at the Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls focused on Elul inspiration starting with the first days of school!

The Shevach students were welcomed back to school with an exhilarating event. On Wednesday evening, September 9, all were invited to a Back to School Extravaganza run by G.O. heads Elana Adler, Chaya Shalva Boiangiu, Dassa Gottesman, Chaya Praeger, and Miriam Romm, with Shevach educational administrator Mrs. Devorah Kovitz coordinating the exciting program.

The weather was perfect for a short stroll to a pond near SKA in Hewlett Bay Park. Taking advantage of the physical beauty so close to their school, the Tenth Graders took turns walking in small groups to the water and saying Tashlich on Thursday, September 24.
