Pantone Institute, the color reference system that predicts the most popular colors each spring and fall, is located in Carlstadt, New Jersey. Their influence on the fashion, home goods, and cosmetic industries is global. This is because color is probably the single-most-powerful communication tool that influences consumer purchases. Pantone culls its inspiration from daily life. The seasonal hues dominate from the runways to the retail stores, and eventually wind up in your closets. It’s as though a memo goes out to all the designers, fashion houses, and the beauty industry, directing them as to which colors should be featured in their collections.
The spring color collection is so diverse and abundant with rich, joyous, and uplifting tones. Usually spring colors are mainly comprised of pastels. It seems the fashion industry gravitated toward a kaleidoscope of bold and bright colors inspired by the rainbow, with a few complementary, warm neutrals, to act as wardrobe staples. Whether you’re gutsy or conservative, there seems to be something to please every color palette. The following colors were chosen to represent spring 2019.
Living Coral: This soft coral shade with a golden undertone was nominated as color of the year and gets its energy from nature’s coral reefs. The color is flattering to many skin tones and looks beautiful for spring.
Fiesta: a reddish/orange color that exudes passion and energy. It brings excitement and has an underlying warmth. It’s not the typical shade of spring.
Turmeric: a lively pungent and spicy orange that looks like the inside of raw turmeric; has appetizing appeal. It’s not only pleasing to the tongue but to the eye as well, which makes it ever so popular for spring.
Pink Peacock: a beautiful and vibrant shade of pink that can also be incorporated as a spring accessory for those faint of heart.
Pepper Stem: This new shade of zesty yellow-green is lighter than olive. Experimenting with this shade is like adding a new vegetable to your diet and encourages a desire for nature’s bounty.
Terrarium Moss: This deeper and more classic version of Pepper Stem is reminiscent of foliage and nature.
Aspen Gold: This yellow and joyful sunshine color can brighten any day, as it evokes cheerful feelings.
Princess Blue: This royal and majestic color has been influenced by the British royals and is the most popular color from the cool spectrum. It can make blue eyes or any eyes glisten and gleam.
Mango Mojito: This rich, golden warm and deep mango yellow pays homage to fall.
Pale Yellow: If you’re enamored with pastels or do not wear brights, here is a lighter version of a citrus color that can lend a soft flair to your spring wardrobe.
Toffee: First came chocolate, then coffee, and now we’re seeing toffee. This color lends an unexpected twist to spring as it whets your fashion palette.
Sweet Lilac: a sweet and feminine pink color infused with lavender, is quite easy to wear, and adds charm in a subtle way.
Neutrals:
Eclipse: a bluish hue that reflects the midnight sky. The color is both mysterious and serious at the same time.
Sweet Corn: This shade creates a soft and buttery effect. I guess butter is in again.
Soybean: This is a light neutral with warm undertones and meant to evoke a feeling of being nurtured. The color gets its name because soybeans are presently the source of the trade war between the U.S. and China, since tariffs were imposed against US soybeans. The color is now popular from day to evening.
Granite: As a strong and grounded brown, this color is timeless and neutral and quite wearable.
The beauty industry is also influenced by Pantone. The season’s hottest colors and trends are designed to complement and showcase spring’s beautiful fashions. Stay tuned for next week’s edition of Queens Jewish Link, which will bring you the latest makeup trends and colors for spring 2019.
