Many women shy away from wearing eye makeup because they feel it’s either too complicated or time-consuming. Imagine your eyelid is your canvas and a great opportunity to get creative with your palette. The following tips will help you create a basic eyeshadow look that can transform you from bland to beautiful.

Prime Time: In order to create makeup longevity and keep your eye makeup from migrating, prep your eyelids with an eye primer. This product should be applied from lids to brow bones, and can even be applied to your eyebrows if you plan to fill in the sparse spots. Next, brush on a light dusting of powder to help set the cream.

Eyeshadow Basics: It’s quite easy to create a beautiful basic eye look. Start by using a light shadow that is a bit lighter than your skin tone. When you apply the shadow to the brush, be sure to dust the excess off lightly in order to avoid fallout in areas you do not want to showcase. You can use the color strictly on the lids if it’s very shimmery. Otherwise, you can apply the light color all over the eyelids as a base. Next, apply a darker and transitional shade in the crease area, beginning with a small amount. You can always add more to create more depth, which is easier than lightening the shade. Once again, always shake off the excess color from the brush before applying. For an illusion of depth or a smoky eye, sweep this color back and forth in soft strokes from the center of the crease to the outer third of the lid in a V shape. The key to a beautiful look is blending the transition colors well without mixing them so you don’t see a strong demarcation of shades. The third color should be a light but vibrant shade to add some pizazz – in order to lift and highlight your brow bone area.

How to Draw the Line: Eyeliner can really enhance your eyes and make them pop instantly. The easiest way to define them is by using a soft gel pencil to line the lash line, beginning with the inner edge of the iris and thickening the line as you move outward. If there’s a space between the eye and the liner you can fill in the upper inner waterline to strengthen the look.

Revisit Your Eyeliner: If you want to add some extra drama or a cat eye wing, you can easily do so. Line your eye by drawing the liner past your lash line, winging it upward and outward at the side. In order to reinforce the look and add some drama, you can even apply a shimmery liquid liner on top of the pencil,

Brows That Wow: A beautiful eye is always incomplete with a messy or sparse eyebrow. Make sure your eyebrows are well groomed, because a messy shape or overgrown eyebrow certainly detracts, closes in your eyes, and gives you less space to work with. If you have some empty spots they can be filled in by using a complementary pencil in short feathery strokes to recreate the look of a natural and full eyebrow.

Beauty has never been a one-size-fits-all! Because everyone is unique and possesses a different shape and eye color, it’s important to customize a look that’s complimentary and makes you feel comfortable to wear.
