In another undefeated season, the seventh and eighth grade HALB Lions girls’ soccer team took on the RYNJ Jaguars. The two teams had played each other twice during the regular season, and the games were both nail-biters.

In this game, the Jaguars were off to an early lead of 2-0, when the Lions began to fight back, and Simona Goldberg tied the score. Shots were strong on both sides, with excellent saves by HALB Goalkeeper Tamar Lewin. RYNJ stayed strong, and tied it up once again, when Naomi Sigman scored twice to put the Lions in front. At halftime, the score was tied at six goals apiece.

In the second half, both teams came out fighting. With a penalty shot scored, and another goal scored by Jordana Stern, HALB took the lead, and this time, didn’t look back. The final score was 14-11.

Congratulations to the entire HALB Lions team for a great season, and becoming the 2019 MJDSAA champions. Everyone on the team worked hard to develop their game and support each other. HALB wishes to extend an extra hakaras ha’tov to coach Susie Lewin, for not only leading the Lions to back-to-back championships, but always modeling sportsmanship and good midos for the team.

Thank you to assistant coach Shelly Forkosh. Good luck to all the graduating eighth graders, as they bring their talents to high school!
