Bnos Malka Academy’s seventh grade class took a trip to Historic Richmond Town to experience with their own eyes the beautiful sight of New York’s rich colonial history. Staten Island’s Historic Richmond Town is a living history museum with houses and artifacts from colonial America.

The girls, decked out in colonial costumes and filled with excited anticipation, went from the historical Voorlezer’s House to the antique general store, experiencing the history of colonial America in real life. The trip ranged from seeing cannons (as one student remarked, “Like Cortez used with the Aztecs!”) to hearing about the daily life of real-life colonial Americans and Native Americans. They learned skills like weaving with mini-looms, and also about the serious topic of slavery within the colonies. Most importantly, they had fun while appreciating the beautiful history of America.
