Since 2019, the New York City Council has continued the incredible tradition of gathering at the City Hall Sukkah to break bread and celebrate the joyous holiday of Sukkos. This year, the gathering was once again hosted by Adrienne Adams, Speaker of the Council, who was grateful to join a whopping 40 of her colleagues, who proudly stood with brimming smiles alongside community leaders and everyday New Yorkers.

The program bestowed honor to Sorolle Idels, chairperson of the Queens Jewish Alliance. Idels was joined by her esteemed parents Dr. Leslie and Devorah Bennett, and her husband Shimmy. Ruth Lichtenstein, publisher at Hamodia, and founder of Project Witness, was also honored. Both women stand at the helm of their communities where they righteously exemplify women who dedicate their lives to supporting and empowering their environs. Speaker Adams, who leads the first women-majority Council, is uniquely inspiring by women who are leading the way for others.

The event included the participation of NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Acting and Deputy Consul General of Israel in New York Tsach Saar, Inspector Richie Taylor, CEO of Met Council David Greenfield, Deputy Chief of Staff and Mayoral Senior Advisor Menashe Shapiro, Jewish Caucus Chair Eric Dinowitz, Assemblymember Sam Berger, Pinny Hikind for NYC Comptroller Brad Lander, amongst others.
