The Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills will welcome Dr. Alan Kadish, President of Touro University, as Scholar-in-Residence on Shabbos VaYeira, November 3-4. YIKGH Scholars-in-Residence are a program of the Rabbi Fabian Schonfeld Adult Education Center.

As a sought-after lecturer, Dr. Kadish has served as a Scholar-in-Residence in synagogues throughout the States and abroad. A prominent cardiologist, dedicated teacher, prolific researcher, and experienced administrator, Dr. Kadish is a graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Kadish received his postdoctoral training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Before coming to Touro, Dr. Kadish taught at the University of Michigan and held a 19-year tenure at Northwestern University, where he also served as an administrator.

As President of Touro University, Dr. Kadish has expanded the university’s many Limudei Kodesh programs on all levels and expanded academic offerings, particularly in the health sciences and medicine, shaping Touro into a top-tier institution.

“We are excited to have Dr. Kadish as scholar-in-residence. The founding Rav, Rabbi Fabian Schonfeld zt”l, and Dr. Bernard Lander zt”l, the founder of Touro, enjoyed a warm relationship working to build Jewish life in Queens,” remarked Stuart Verstandig, President of the Young Israel. “Dr. Lander was a builder of educational programs for all.”
