Parshas Nitzavim–Vayeilech begins with all of Klal Yisrael standing together before Hashem: “Atem nitzavim hayom kulchem lifnei Hashem Elokeichem” - “You are standing today, all of you, before Hashem your G-d.” As we approach the Yamim Noraim, these words remind us that we stand before Hashem not only as individuals, but together as one Klal Yisrael.
The parshah speaks of teshuvah and Hashem’s promise to gather His people from wherever they may be scattered. The Torah tells us that returning to Hashem is not beyond our reach: “Ki karov eilecha hadavar me’od, b’ficha u’vilvavcha la’asoso” - “The matter is very close to you, in your mouth and in your heart, to do it.” Hashem is always close, and the opportunity to turn to Him is always within reach.
The Torah then tells us, “U’vacharta ba’chayim” - “You shall choose life.” As we say Tehillim, we ask Hashem to grant life, health, refuah, brachah, and yeshuah to all those in need. We daven especially for our chayalim, with the words Moshe Rabbeinu gives Klal Yisrael in Vayeilech: “Chizku v’imtzu... ki Hashem Elokecha Hu haholeich imach” - “Be strong and courageous... for Hashem your G-d goes with you.” May Hashem protect them, strengthen them, and bring them home safely.
May our Tehillim and tefilos be accepted b’rachamim u’v’ratzon. May Hashem send complete refuos to all those who are ill, yeshuos to all those in need, and shemirah and hatzlachah to our chayalim and all of Klal Yisrael. As we approach the Yamim Noraim, may we merit a year of life and brachah, peace and simchah, and the ultimate geulah with the coming of Mashiach and the rebuilding of the Beis HaMikdash, bimheirah b’yameinu, amen.
