Queens Jewish community was honored this week with a special visit from former Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi David Lau, in a day filled with inspiration, Torah, and unity. The visit was organized by Rabbi Yaniv Meirov of Chazaq, who gave the Chief Rabbi a small glimpse into the vibrant Queens community.

Rabbi Lau began his tour at the Beth Gavriel Center, where he was shown the progress of the new building. He expressed deep admiration upon learning about the wide range of programs already taking place within the center, including a vibrant day and night kollel, as well as a mikvah for both men and women—serving as a true hub for Torah, tefilah, and community life.

Continuing his visit, Rabbi Lau traveled to several prominent educational institutions, including Tiferet Tzion High School, Yeshiva Tiferet Moshe, Zucker Academy, Yeshiva Shaarei Tzion, Yeshiva Chafetz Chaim, and Lander College for Men. At each stop, he was warmly received by students and faculty, addressing thousands of students  throughout the day and delivering powerful words of chizuk that left a lasting impact.

The Chief Rabbi also visited Chazaq headquarters, where he was briefed on the organization’s transformative work with public school students—guiding thousands toward stronger Jewish connection and, in many cases, transitioning them into yeshiva education.

Reflecting on his visit, Rabbi Lau remarked that while he had come to Queens to inspire others, he himself was deeply inspired. “I came to give chizuk,” he shared, “but I am leaving strengthened after witnessing a community so vibrant, so united, and so thirsty for Torah across all backgrounds.”
