For years, a staple of the Queens Jewish community has been the tz’dakah and programming provided by Chazaq, the preeminent organization dedicated to building a stronger future. Partnering with the Met Council, one of their primary charitable focusses has been the food pantry, which is available to any family in need. Recently, the drive included a new volunteer.
Republican congressional candidate Paul King participated in the significant community initiative – the Chazaq Food Drive – aimed at alleviating food insecurity in Queens. Organized by Chazaq, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening Jewish identity and assisting those in need, the event drew approximately 100 attendees, including volunteers and families seeking assistance.
The Chazaq Food Drive serves as a critical resource for families facing economic challenges. With rising costs affecting many households, the initiative not only provides essential food supplies, but also fosters community spirit and solidarity. Paul King expressed his gratitude for being part of such a meaningful event, stating, “It’s an honor to be part of such a meaningful initiative. The Chazaq Food Drive is more than just about providing food; it’s about bringing the community together and showing that we can support each other during tough times.”
King, who is running for Congress in New York’s 5th Congressional District, has a longstanding commitment to community service and civic engagement. His connection to the Chazaq organization stems from his ongoing outreach efforts to the Jewish community, as he actively advocates for issues important to them, including the fight against anti-Semitism and support for Israel. He believes in the profound historical and spiritual significance of the Jewish people’s claim to the land of Israel, as articulated in Biblical texts.
King faces an uphill battle in the election, facing incumbent Gregory Meeks, who has held the office since January 2013. The 5th Congressional District encompasses Jamaica, Richmond Hill, Laurelton, and the Rockaways. The food drive is one way for King to reach out to communities that have felt left behind by today’s Democratic Party.
During the food drive, King took a tour of Chazaq World HQ with Yaniv Meirov, deepening his ties with the local Jewish community. “Seeing the turnout and knowing the impact we’re making gives me hope for what we can achieve when we all pitch in,” he remarked, reflecting on the positive community engagement displayed during the event.
Chazaq organizes food drives every Tuesday, demonstrating a consistent commitment to addressing food insecurity in the area. With leaders like Paul King actively participating in these initiatives, the community is not only supported through immediate assistance but also strengthened through collaborative efforts.
King’s participation in the Chazaq Food Drive highlights his dedication to serving the needs of local residents, aligning with his broader campaign goals of community support and engagement. As he continues his congressional campaign, King’s involvement in initiatives like this reinforces his commitment to uplifting those in need within his constituency.
