On Thursday evening, March 28, the community gathered for an informative, interactive meeting with the President of Queens College, Frank H. Wu, at the Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills. The event was presented by Assemblyman Sam Berger. Rabbi Stuart Verstandig, President of the Young Israel, thanked Assembly Member Sam Berger and his staff for organizing this gathering with Queens College President Wu.
On Thursday night, March 14, the community gathered at the Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills for an inspiring, powerful program hosted by Queens Jewish Link, Bukharian Jewish Link, Chazaq, Queens Jewish Community Center, Queens Jewish Alliance, and the Department of Zionist Activities in the Diaspora.
On Motza’ei Shabbos, March 16, Amit Yaghoubi, well-known inspirational speaker, shared a beautiful shiur at Congregation Ahavas Yisroel. She began by stating that this year had been out of the ordinary. We want it to turn around from sadness to simchah. She shared a story with a lesson. A young woman became an orphan recently. She had very little money in the bank, but she called her rabbi and told him she wanted to donate all of her money to purchase tzitzis for the soldiers in Gaza. The rabbi first tried to discourage her from using all her money in case she needed it. She cried and was insistent that she wanted to perform this mitzvah. She said it would be a merit for her father, who was recently niftar.
Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky shlita told Leah Richeimer that the avodah of our generation is shalom bayis. He encouraged her to continue her holy work of teaching this to everyone and guiding couples towards this. When shalom bayis is strong, then other problems will diminish, and this can bring Mashiach.
“Our goal is explicitly clear and intentional: to inspire your children to love Hashem and to come closer to Hashem.” Rabbi Mordechai Ginsparg, Menahel of the Bais Yaakov Academy of Queens, spoke at the 65th Annual Bais Yaakov of Queens Dinner at the Sands in Long Beach.
