In an inspiring interview with the Queens Jewish Link, Eliyahu Mizrachi, founder of Mazel Tov Movers, shared the personal journey behind his company’s founding, along with advice for anyone preparing for a move.
Eliyahu Mizrachi arrived in New York from Yerushalayim in 1974 with dreams of pursuing a music career. A talented drummer, he performed on Friday nights in bars and even played with the renowned Piamenta Band. One week, bandleader Yosi Piamenta invited him for Shabbos – and that one taste of Shabbos changed everything.
“I saw the light of Shabbos,” he recalled. “I realized it wasn’t for me to play in dark places on Friday nights anymore.” That experience marked a turning point. He began keeping Shabbos and, soon after, he met his wife. As his family grew, Eliyahu looked for a stable and reliable way to support them.
In the early 1980s, he purchased a van and launched a moving business, originally called Mazel Movers. As demand grew, he added more trucks. When a customer once joked, “Is it good mazal or bad?” Eliyahu rebranded the company as Mazel Tov Movers – a name that’s become synonymous with integrity and professionalism in the New York moving industry.
For Eliyahu, the best part of his work is being able to serve people with honesty. “Moving is a very intense time. People need a company they can trust,” he said. “We keep our customers satisfied.”
When asked what advice he’d offer to those preparing for a move, he emphasized choosing a reputable mover with strong references. Mazel Tov Movers also offers expert packing advice, such as using dish packs for kitchenware and smaller boxes for books to prevent overloading.
