Hi Rabbi,

I hired a health coach/personal trainer, and have chosen nutrition and weight loss as my primary areas on which to work. He guided me in setting up week one goals, which I seemingly met with ease. Now I’ve been with him for close to eight weeks, and I’ve yet to meet the goals that we set for week two. Despite both of us brainstorming practical solutions to my potential obstacles, I come up with varying excuses for why I can’t meet the goals. Feeling like I can’t gain traction in getting results and getting to the place I want to be physically! I remain,

 Dear Diet Diary,

I really did not want to have a weigh-in in the middle of Chanukah, but that was the only appointment that was available. I guess in a way it was good knowing that I had to face the scale right after Chanukah, because it did help keep things in check, but unfortunately, I still gained some weight.  When discussing this with Alice, she explained that sometimes we feel we are making good choices, when in fact the foods we are eating are far from dietetic. In my present life, I welcome the opportunity to write on the topic of addiction. But, this was not always the case. Life experiences, knowledge, and the healing of time has brought a clarity of thought and feelings to be shared. For some, this article may include  new information and insight on the effect of addiction on families, an opportunity to experience an inside view on addiction and how it can challenge a parent’s love. For others, it may be an all too familiar page from the story of your life, a chronicle that validates personal experiences that happen when addiction comes to your home.
