Stress is unfortunately part of daily life, and when chronic, it can contribute to skin aging and exacerbate skin conditions such as psoriasis, and acne. A bit of exercise can improve the health and appearance of your complexion. Why not give your skin some TLC by practicing good pre and post workout habits?
- Don’t worry about washing off your makeup prior to exercising. It may surprise you, but it’s okay to skip washing your face, because you’ll sweat and get a little messy anyhow. What you don’t want is heavy moisturizer on the face prior to your workout. Some moisturizers put a barrier on the skin, which prevents the evaporation of water. This can be pore clogging, plus it will prevent the evaporation of sweat, which actually cools you down. Therefore, avoid adding moisturizer pre-workout.
- After exercising, wipe off the sweat and hit the shower to remove the buildup of sweat, oil, and germs. This is especially important if you’re prone to acne. In that case, you even can try a wash that contains some benzoyl peroxide.
- If you don’t have time to shower, at least clean your face. Avoid harsh washes and opt for a gentle or mild cleanser. A facial wipe can be used in a pinch, if you’re running out the door. For acne-prone skin, use, a wipe with salicylic acid to help prevent clogged pores which lead to pimples.
Just as exercise is good for the muscles, it’s also good for your skin. and may even help reduce signs of aging. If you’re working from home, you can possibly fit in a mid-day workout and keep your skin looking healthy and beautiful.
