As the hot humid weather continues and the sun shines bright, it's important to adjust your skincare to protect and nourish your skin. This will keep your skin glowing and healthy all summer long. The following tips will help you maintain a radiant complexion.
- Sun Protection.
Sunscreen with a high SPF number should be applied daily, including on cloudy days. This is non-negotiable, and the best way to prevent premature aging, sunburn, sunspots, and skin cancer. Formulas are either comprised with natural ingredients such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide or chemicals like oxybenzone and others. Read labels and opt for those that provide broad spectrum without clogging pores. Also remember to reapply your sunscreen after swimming or sweating.
- Hydrate from Inside Out
Be sure to drink plenty of water, because being hydrated is essential for maintaining healthy skin, especially during hot weather. Aim for 8 glasses daily to plump and hydrate your skin.
- Moisturize daily
If your skin is becoming more oily, switch to a lightweight moisturizer to prevent clogged pores while hydrating your skin. If your skin becomes drier and you're spending more time indoors with A/C going round the clock, there's no need to change your formula.
- Exfoliate
Regular exfoliation prevents a buildup of dead skin cells, which can easily clog your pores. This process of using a scrub or mask helps promote cell turnover, thus giving you a brighter complexion. Limit exfoliation to 2x a week in order to avoid skin irritation.
- Cleanse
If your skin is oily or becomes oilier due to the weather, you need to cleanse twice a day with a gentle cleanser in order to remove the sweat, sunscreen, and environmental pollutants.
- Treat Sunburn
Despite our best efforts to protect the skin, sunburns do occur. It's always best to treat sunburn promptly by soothing and healing the skin. Aloe vera gel and cool compresses can help alleviate discomfort and expedite the healing process.
- Minimal Makeup
Lighten up – it’s summertime. Heavy makeup can clog the pores and feel uncomfortable in the heat. Choose non-comedogenic products and opt for minimal makeup and lightweight formulas. A tinted moisturizer with an SPF, a touch of mascara, or top liner and lip balm with SPF can give you a fresh and natural look.
- Set with Powder
If you prefer more coverage for skin imperfections, use a setting powder to help lock your makeup in place and reduce shine.
With a few summer skincare tips, you can keep your skin healthy and protected from the elements. Your face can look radiant and beautiful all summer long.
