The 6th Annual “Light Up The Night” Chanukah celebration, organized by Rabbi Shmuel Kogan of Ganeinu Academy with his wife Shevi, was a dazzling success. Initially scheduled for Sunday, the event was rescheduled to Monday, December 30, from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m., to accommodate working parents and avoid predicted inclement weather. The event attracted an astounding 1,800 participants, making it a true community highlight.

Held at Cunningham Park in Fresh Meadows, the celebration shifted to the parking lot to sidestep the soggy grass, but the atmosphere was nothing short of electric. The grand menorah lighting, led by Rabbi Kogan, kicked off the festivities, followed by a top-notch performance from international singing sensation Yoni Z. A breathtaking firework display, courtesy of the FDNY, lit up the night sky in a fitting tribute to the Festival of Lights.

Excitement peaked with raffles for grand prizes, including a Meta Quest 3S, a Segway, and AirPods Pro 2. Every attendee enjoyed a complimentary donut, and the event remained free thanks to the generosity of sponsors and partners.

Queens Shmira, alongside NYPD officers, ensured the safety and security of all participants. Rabbi Kogan and his team extended heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made the event possible, including key sponsors and contributors led by NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs, Queens Jewish Community Council (QJCC).

Participating schools included Bnos Malka Academy, Ezra Academy, Ganeinu Academy, JIQ, YCQ, and Yeshiva Har Torah, and shuls were Bukharian Community Center of Jamaica Estates, BJCC, House of Torah, Sephardic Center of Hollis Hills, Young Israel of Hillcrest, Young Israel of Holliswood, and Young Israel of Jamaica Estates.

This unforgettable evening truly showcased the spirit of Chanukah, uniting the Queens community for one event on one night for one strong Jewish community proud to stand in support of Israel.
