Wednesday evenings offer an inspiring lineup of learning for the Women’s Division of Emet Outreach. Following TorahConnect, the weekly chavrusa program, is a new initiative aptly called “The Next Step.” Held at YCQ from 9-10 p.m., this lecture-style program is modeled after Step It Up, Emet’s classic level two learning program for college girls. “Our vision was to create a program where married women could recreate their Step It Up experience at the next stage of life,” said Ms. Adina Fendel, Emet Women’s Director. “It can be challenging for women to find time for Torah study while juggling the responsibilities of family and career. At The Next Step, participants can connect with women who are like-minded, share similar experiences and are looking to continue their spiritual growth.”

Led by Mrs. Amit Yaghoubi, the current 4-part series is focused on the importance of self-care from the Torah perspective. Sharen Inoyatova, a former Emet student who is now a mother and nurse, is coordinating the program. She explained, “The Next Step is more than just another Torah class. It’s self-care for the soul.” Over 25 women, many who have grown through Step It Up, were on-hand for the recent first class. They embraced the discussion of how to care for themselves physically, spiritually, and emotionally.  As part of the program, the women went around the room and shared their hopes for the experience. A common feeling was how difficult it is for them to get out in the evening and carve out time for themselves, but many felt that being in the presence of their old Step It Up friends put them in a growth mindset. “When I was in graduate school, Emet grew on me, and I couldn’t get enough. Now, Emet keeps on growing with me and I couldn’t be more grateful,” said Pnina Sokol. “To have a sacred time and space to connect with women who genuinely want to reconnect with Hashem like I do makes me feel community in motherhood.”
