This past Tuesday, the entire teaching staff of Bnos Malka Academy in grades 1-8 came together for a differentiated day of learning. While some staff members learned how to implement Think SRSD, an exceptional writing and critical thinking program, others learned about Retrieval Practice and the role it plays in helping students retain material and gain deeper understanding.
The Retrieval Practice workshop was run by Mrs. Zuckerman, the middle school assistant principal, and Dr. Babad, the elementary school assistant principal. What made the learning exceptional was the complete involvement and engagement of all the teachers, who were eager to learn this methodology and how it would benefit their students. In addition to the theory behind the concept, teachers also learned valuable strategies to implement in the classroom the very next day.
Mrs. Walfish, the school reading specialist, and Mrs. Narrowe, one of the outstanding fourth-grade teachers, conducted the Think SRSD workshop. The teachers listened intently as they learned how the program can enrich students’ learning.
Dr. Rivky Babad noted, “At Bnos Malka, we differentiate for students, and we also differentiate for teachers so that everyone gets what she needs. Ultimately, it comes down to our incredible staff of teachers and their dedication to their students. When you work with exceptional educators, every aspect of learning is a joy.”
