The Chofetz Chaim, a revered Jewish sage known for his wisdom and teachings, shared a profound insight about a time before the arrival of Mashiach. He conveyed that Hashem would shake the world as if with a rope, testing the faith of individuals in challenging times. These tough moments, as he explained, serve as a trial for our faith, urging us to tightly hold onto our connection with Hashem, likened to a symbolic rope.
In the face of difficult situations, the Chofetz Chaim emphasized that Hashem is always with us, even if His presence seems hidden. Drawing from T’hilim 91:15, he quoted King David, stating that when we call upon Hashem, He answers and stands by us in times of trouble. The Chofetz Chaim reminded us that if we ever feel distant from Hashem, it’s likely because we’ve unintentionally blocked Him out, echoing the words of the Kotzker Rebbe, who emphasized finding Hashem where we invite Him.
The Chofetz Chaim also highlighted the transformative power of even the smallest efforts to draw closer to Hashem. These efforts create a small opening in our hearts, and as the saying goes, “Pis’chu li pesach k’chudo shel machat, va’ani eftach lachem pesach k’pis’cho shel ulam” (“Open up a hole the size of a needle, and Gd will open a hole like the doorway of the Temple hall”), signifying the vastness of Hashem’s response to our sincere endeavors.
Referring to Sh’mos 25:8, where it says, “And let them make Me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them,” the Chofetz Chaim echoed the teachings of our Sages. They pointed out that “I will dwell among them” can also mean “in them,” emphasizing that each Jew is meant to be a special place for Hashem’s presence in the world, akin to the Beis HaMikdash.
Delving into the concept of the Third Beis HaMikdash, the Chofetz Chaim explained the dual perspectives: one suggesting that people will build it, and the other proposing that Hashem has already constructed it in the heavenly realms. However, he clarified that these ideas are not contradictory. When regular Jews turn to Hashem with t’shuvah, t’filah, and mitzvos, they are simultaneously building their own segment of the Beis HaMikdash on earth. May we merit to witness the construction of the Third Beis HaMikdash and the coming of Mashiach.
