In this week’s parshah, Parshas Balak, we read about the plot of Balak, the king of Moav, who sought to harm klal Yisrael by enlisting the services of the rasha Bil’am. Recognizing that physical warfare would be futile against the am s’gulah, Balak attempted a spiritual attack, hoping Bil’am’s curses would succeed where swords could not.

Bil’am, a man who possessed n’vuah but lacked yir’as Shamayim, intended to curse am Yisrael, but HaKadosh Baruch Hu, in His infinite rachamim, transformed each intended curse into a profound brachah. From Bil’am’s mouth emerged some of the most beautiful praises of klal Yisrael, including the well-known verse, “Mah tovu ohalecha Yaakov, mishkenosecha Yisrael.”

This episode is a powerful reminder that even when others seek our downfall, Hashem Yisbarach is constantly watching over us, turning potential din into rachamim. It also underscores the koach of dibur – the power of speech – and our responsibility to use it to build, uplift, and bring light, especially in these turbulent times.

May we be zocheh to always find favor in the eyes of Hashem and to see y’shuos and r’fuos for all those in need.
