Though we are a local newspaper rooted in the vibrant neighborhoods of Queens, the turmoil unfolding across the globe has reached our doorsteps — and touched our hearts — in deeply personal ways.
This past week, my daughter arrived in New York from Eretz Yisrael to attend a close friend’s wedding, which had been scheduled for Wednesday night. She left behind her husband and their eight children, bringing only her infant. She was happy to come for the simchah, to reconnect with family, and to spend precious time with loved ones. At the same time, her heart is back home — with her husband, her children, and her community in Eretz Yisrael. She’s eager to return as soon as she’s able.
Her husband and children remain in Eretz Yisrael, where their lives are rooted - that is their home, and that is where they wish to be.
The current crisis is unprecedented. What is happening in Israel - and the looming threat of the Iranian regime - is a defining moment for our generation. What was meant to be a short, joyful visit has been overshadowed by the growing uncertainty and danger facing am Yisrael. The threat posed by Iran and its proxies existential. It’s a reminder that wherever we live, the fate of the Jewish people is shared.
This is a moment that calls for achdus, for heartfelt tefillah, and for clarity. We must daven not only for Israel’s strength and protection, but for the courage and wisdom of our leaders - here in the United States and around the world. We must speak up, stand up, and stand together.
Regardless of politics, background, or affiliation, now is the time for every American - and especially every Jew - to stand proudly and unequivocally with Israel. The Iranian regime threatens not only our homeland, but the values and morality that underpin the civilized world.
May HaKadosh Baruch Hu bring a swift and complete yeshuah to klal Yisrael, to our soldiers, to our hostages, and to all innocent people in harm’s way. May we see open miracles, lasting peace, and the arrival of Mashiach, bimheirah b’yameinu.
With heartfelt tefilos and hope,
Yaakov Serle
