In a thrilling display of teamwork, skill, and sheer determination, the Yeshiva of Central Queens (YCQ) Girls Volleyball team cemented their place in the history books by capturing the league’s inaugural championship title. Facing off against the formidable team from North Shore, YCQ delivered a spectacular performance to claim the crown and bring the championship trophy home.
The championship match was a masterclass in grit. From the opening serve, both teams traded powerful spikes and spectacular digs, but it was YCQ’s flawless communication and relentless hustle that ultimately broke North Shore’s defense, including Sigalit Galibov’s eight-point streak while serving.
This inaugural season brought unique pressures, but the YCQ athletes rose to the challenge under the expert guidance of parent volunteer coach Eddie Khodzhiyev. Coach Khodzhiyev’s dedication, strategic focus, and emphasis on unity transformed the roster into a dominant, cohesive force on the court.
The historic, championship-winning YCQ roster included Abigail Gilkarov, Abigail Inoyatov, Anael Rachmanov, Eliora Kikirova, Hannah Kaykov, Kira Hoffman, Lauren Rakhminov, Leah Badalov, Leah Davydov, Liana Aminov, Liora Kalantarov, Loren Moradov, Natalia Matatov, Sigalit Galibov, and Talya Khodzhiyev.
The victory came on the heels of an incredibly successful spring season for YCQ, which included both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams reaching their respective championships.
Thank you to our students for taking initiative and requesting the creation of a league, as well as to the other founding members of the league, QHA, YHT, and NSHA, and Commissioner Rhine for their efforts. YCQ is looking forward to welcoming other teams into the league next season.
Let’s go Wildcats!
