Last week, Rambam hosted its Annual January 1 Father-Son-Grandfather-Uncle-Brother Learn-A-Thon. The event started off strong with an amazing schoolwide Shacharis. After davening, all talmidim and their families were invited downstairs to an amazing breakfast sponsored by the Rambam Women’s League. During breakfast, the families had the chance to begin learning the m’koros for the shiur. After breakfast, everyone went back to the Shul, where certain talmidim were honored for their extra learning. First, Rabbi Dr. Andrew Sicklick presented awards to all those who have been participating in Parshah Yomi, a program where talmidim sign on to learn the parshah each week with a quiz every Friday to earn prizes.
Next, Rabbi Avrum Haar, Assistant Principal, presented awards to talmidim who have earned the status of Masmidim, in one of the school’s oldest learning programs. Rabbi Haar also gave special shoutouts to seniors Avi Pearlman and Avi Lax for their four-year-long commitment to Masmidim. Additionally, Rabbi Haar gave shoutouts to all those who have been participating in the Bekius Program where talmidim are learning half or all of Maseches Makos. After the recognition of the extra learning being done in Rambam, the event culminated in an amazing shiur from guest speaker Rabbi Shmuel Ismach of the Young Israel of Great Neck. Rabbi Ismach spoke about the importance of quality over quantity, whether it comes to learning or t’filah. Rabbi Ismach inspired all of us to learn more and live a better Torah life.
After the shiur, each family was given a commemorative “A Rambam Man never stops learning” coffee mug for the road.
Thank you to Rabbi Ismach for coming out to share this inspirational Torah with us. Thank you to the Women’s League and everyone else who made this day possible. Thank you to all the rebbeim who dedicate their time to help the talmidim grow in their Torah. Thank you to everyone who came out to learn!
