YCQ’s Chanukah celebrations were truly jam-packed—or should we say jelly-filled?
After a day off on Monday, the festivities kicked off on Tuesday with the uplifting sounds of Hallel echoing throughout the halls. Students dove into a variety of exciting activities, including a mesmerizing Bubble Show for Early Childhood and Chanukah-themed Bingo for Grades 1 and 2. Meanwhile, students in Grades 1 through 8 put their knowledge to the test during a high-energy competition with Game-On Trivia.
A major highlight of the day was the opportunity for students in Grades 5 through 8 to hear from two remarkable guest speakers. The boys were moved by Jennie Landsman’s story of resilience and her tireless fight for treatment for her two sons’ rare disease. Simultaneously, the girls heard from Estee Ackerman, a table-tennis star who gave up her Olympic dreams by refusing to play on Shabbos. Both speakers left the students in awe of their courage, commitment, and strength of character.

On Wednesday, the Junior High School dedicated the day to chesed, visiting local nursing homes and performing acts of kindness throughout Queens. Their efforts brought light and joy to the community, beautifully embodying the spirit of the holiday. Back on campus, students in Grades N through 2 enjoyed an interactive Small Wonder Puppet Show that brought the Chanukah story to life, while Grades 1 through 5 had a delicious time decorating donuts.
The energy stayed high through Thursday as students across all grades enjoyed a “Silent DJ” experience. Guided by DJ Eli Arshadnia, students donned headphones to dance and celebrate the miracles of Chanukah. The sight of everyone showing off their moves in a silent room brought laughter and fun to all. The Junior High also got in on the sweetness with their own donut-decorating session.
The staff joined in the celebrations as well, enjoying a festive Faculty Luncheon hosted by the administration. A special thank you goes to the YCQ PTO and the families who contributed to the thoughtful Hakaras HaTov gifts for the faculty.
Friday’s shortened schedule featured a JHS brunch, special Early Childhood activities, and competitive dreidel tournaments for Grades 1 through 8. The festivities officially wrapped up on Monday as Early Childhood students dazzled their families with delightful performances in their Chanukah plays led by Morah Tali Brody.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made Chanukah so memorable!
