Queens College President Frank H. Wu will preside over the school’s 102nd commencement exercises on Thursday, May 28, at 9 a.m. on the campus quadrangle. Over 4,000 degree candidates will be recognized, with the college awarding approximately 4,300 undergraduate and graduate degrees to an estimated audience of 7,000 ticketholders.
Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Jr. will deliver the keynote address and receive the Queens College Presidential Medal, the school’s highest administrative honor. The college will also bestow honorary degrees upon two trailblazing alumnae: Lucy Freeman Sandler ’51, a renowned medieval art historian, and Marie Maynard Daly ’42, the first Black woman in the US to earn a PhD in chemistry. Daly’s degree will be awarded posthumously and accepted by her granddaughter, Carly Reid.
Student speaker David Davydov, who is graduating summa cum laude with a combined bachelor’s/master’s degree in philosophy and a minor in Honors in the Humanities, will address the graduating class.
