Activists Dr. Paul & Drora Brody of Great Neck, Long Island, had the privilege of hosting Brigadier General (Res.) Amir Avivi on Motza’ei Shabbos, May 2, at their home for a sumptuous Melaveh Malkah.
A sizable, focused crowd listened intently to the history of the grassroots movement that Gen. Avivi founded: Israel’s Defense & Security Forum (IDSF). IDSF is an Israel-based, nonprofit organization committed to safeguarding Israel and the Jewish people, as well as educating the public. Its goal is to advance security policies and develop programs within Israel. Thus far, there are 55,000 members across Israel working to strengthen national resilience and societal cohesion.
Since October 7, there has been a greater need to ensure internal Israeli security because of heightened anti-Jewish sentiment. IDSF has been a great source of protection in that regard. However, much work needs to be accomplished in order to increase safekeeping for Israel and the Jewish community at large. General Avivi described, for close to an hour, how his foundation requires more personnel and resources to carry out its goals.
Gen. Avivi, who retired from the IDF in 2017 with over 30 years of military, counterterrorism, and national defense experience, also spoke after Musaf at the Great Neck Synagogue, and again at seudah sh’lishis, to a packed audience. Attendees were eager to learn about his grassroots foundation and felt compelled to support this worthy cause.
