Kew Gardens Hills was jumping with energy this past Lag BaOmer as much of the neighborhood packed into the 147th Street dead end for Hashevaynu’s annual Hilula to Rashbi. It was a beautiful simchah that brought all walks of the community together to share in the electric spirit of the day.
The energy behind 72nd Drive was through the roof. Zalman Pollack, Michel Krohn, and the band kept the music pumping, and the dancing didn't stop until late. A real highlight was seeing the Mara D’Asra, Rabbi Yehuda Zakutinsky, right in the thick of it. The rav was out there in encouraging leibedik circles, engaging with the crowd and bringing an infectious z'rizus that really moved the evening along.

While the kids were busy with Rita’s Ice, cotton candy, and warm pretzels, the real focus remained on the hadlakah. As the flames went up, the singing reached a whole new level—one of those moments where you really feel the ruach and the connection Hashevaynu is known for.

A big thank you to Queens Shmira for being on-site all night. Although the volunteers covered a dizzying number of programs, they made each gathering feel unique, as if it were the only show in town. Between the glow of the bonfire and the energy in the air, it was a great reminder of what makes our community what it is—a night of Torah, family, and a lot of heart.
