The Queens Community is looking forward with great anticipation to the annual Erna Lindenfeld Hachnosas Kallah Tea on Tuesday evening, February 6, at 7:30 p.m., at the Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills.

The Annual Tea has been a Queens hallmark event for decades, providing the community with the opportunity to give tz’dakah to a most worthy local cause, while enjoying inspiring entertainment and amazing raffle prizes.

Most of our donations are dedicated to Eretz Yisrael, and the need for funding is greater now than ever before. We rescheduled this long-awaited event to ensure that it would appropriately represent the challenging times we all face today, recognize the memory of our special honoree a”h, and provide our community with a truly uplifting and inspiring evening.

Our program promises to be extraordinary, featuring the renowned orator and m’chaneich Rabbi Joey Haber, Dean of Magen David Yeshivah. Rabbi Haber travels the globe delivering dynamic speeches that resonate with audiences of all backgrounds and ages. In addition, there will be brief greetings from Ettie Zelmanowitz, our President, Mr. Shelly Lindenfeld, representing the Lindenfeld family, and Mrs. Irene Laub, representing our sponsors, the Listhaus family. The drawing of our fabulous raffle prizes and joining together in heartfelt songs of chizuk will round out the evening.

This year’s tea is dedicated through the generosity of Randy and Betty Makovsky, Itzi and Irene Laub, and Bruce and Judy Listhaus, in memory of their beloved mother, Molly Listhaus a”h.

Molly Listhaus a”h was born in 1929 in Dzikov, Poland. When the war broke out, Molly, her mother, and two siblings were exiled to Siberia, while her father joined the Polish partisans and fought the Nazis. At only ten years old, Molly had to grow up quickly and contribute to the family’s survival. She met and married her husband, Jacob (Jack), in a DP camp, and immigrated to the US, where they settled in Canarsie and raised their three wonderful children. They had a wide circle of friends and were well regarded in the community. In 1993, after their children were married, the Listhauses moved to KGH and were active in Rabbi Friedman’s shul and other organizations, including Emunah Women and our Hachnosas Kallah Fund of Queens. After Jack was niftar in 2009, Molly diligently continued her communal work. Molly’s greatest pride was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, bli ayin ha’ra. She touched so many lives and was loved by all who were fortunate to know her.

The Erna Lindenfeld Hachnosas Kallah Fund of Queens’ driving mission is working with the Queens community and beyond to fulfill the mitzvah of Hachnasas Kallah, sharing in the mitzvah of being m’samei’ach chasan v’kallah, and building batim ne’emanim b’Yisrael.

Imagine a family whose husband is serving as a reservist at the front, with minimal income, trying to marry off a child. Imagine a family that has been relocated from the South, leaving their homes with virtually the clothing on their backs, trying to make a chasunah under the most trying of circumstances. Imagine the child of a victim of terror in Israel going to the chupah without any financial assistance from his/her family. Imagine the mother of eight who has been deserted by her husband and must marry off a child. Imagine a baalas t’shuvah whose family has rejected her, trying to make her own wedding. Just imagine a family right here in Queens with six children. The father has lost his job, the mother must stay at home to take care of a sick child, and they are struggling to marry off a son or daughter.

All these, and more, are typical of the ever-increasing volume of cases that the Erna Lindenfeld Hachnosas Kallah Fund board receives and verifies each month from chasanim and kallos. Each case is carefully checked to confirm that it comes from a reliable source and is considered according to its unique circumstances. It is your devotion and generosity that enable us to assist these families and make their lives that little bit easier. This reassures them that klal Yisrael cares, and it helps them make their simchah b’simchah.

For those who are not aware of our origins, our organization is named after an incredible eishes chayil, Erna Lindenfeld a”h. She was a remarkable woman with an innate kindness and compassion for others. Her tremendous determination to defy all odds by surviving the Holocaust gave her the strength to rebuild her life, marry her beloved husband Marcel, and bring four wonderful sons into this world. She carried herself with grace and dignity, and it was her warmth and sincerity that endeared her to all who knew her. Unfortunately, Erna was taken from her adoring family and community at a young age. After Erna’s p’tirah, her dear friend, Rebbetzin Ruth Schonfeld a”h, perpetuated her memory by creating an organization that would personify Erna’s dedication to the continuity of klal Yisrael.

The Hachnosas Kallah Fund Board itself is comprised of a diverse group of women, representing the kaleidoscope of Queens and klal Yisrael as a whole. We daven in different shuls, are of different ages, and come from different backgrounds. Nevertheless, our devotion to the organization and our achdus is amazing, as we meld our hearts together to fulfill the mitzvah of Hachnasas Kallah and preserve the confidentiality and dignity of each family.

Please join the Erna Lindenfeld Hachnosas Kallah Fund family, partner with us to fulfill the mitzvah of Hachnasas Kallah, and share in the z’chus of this incredible mitzvah!
