It’s been a while since I’ve been able to sit down and churn out an article that hopefully can help Queens Jewish Link readers.
What is not readily known about home inspectors is our ability to inspect not only the home, but many types of appliances that are included with the sale of a home. Some are even qualified to look at those newfangled “smart” devices!
Which leads me to two of my local grandkids. Over a great meal, the two were explaining to their latest STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Music) related projects, sparing no detail. As they try to break the process into tiny little digestible pieces so that I can understand, I must admit that I was struggling to follow a little. One would think that with my engineering background, this would excite me, and I would be glued to the discussion… Well, I was glued alright, except to which dessert I want after the main course! (Could I convince them to pick desserts I wanted so I could take just enough to not cause my blood sugar to skyrocket?)
All kidding aside, I’m quite adept at many technical disciplines, and when inspecting a home, often determine the efficacy of appliances as found in a home: refrigerators, stoves, ranges, dishwashers, washers, and dryers. You get the picture.
The later models are now “smart” and can be controlled with apps that often save a homeowner a substantial amount on utility bills. Thermostats that control our heating and AC can keep us comfortable by studying our living conditions. Smart refrigerators monitor how often the doors are opened, how long they stay open, etc.
These functions are conveniently monitored on smartphones so we can plan accordingly and help save money. The same is true for washers and dryers! The possibilities are endless. So, to conclude: When purchasing a home or apartment, or doing a maintenance inspection, a home inspector can test these devices for their efficiency and determine if they are working as advertised.
