The 5783 Yamim Tovim at Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center were each inspirational for residents. Full services for Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkos davenings were held in an enjoyable atmosphere. They were each found to be very meaningful for residents in attendance.

A special Sukkos program that included individual residents shaking the daled minim was conducted with Rabbi Zavel Pearlman, the facility’s coordinator for Jewish affairs. “The Talmud explains that in the merit of shaking our lulav and esrog in each direction we have proper directional winds and precipitation,” explained Rabbi Pearlman. Residents in attendance looked on as their friends each took a turn and clearly pronounced the blessings.

Hosted in the center’s beautiful spacious sukkah, Rabbi Pearlman pointed out how we sit in the outdoor dwelling to commemorate Hashem protecting us from the natural elements during the Biblical era. The High Holidays concluded with families joining their loved ones for Chol HaMoed outings at the outdoor garden and expansive sukkah, and finally joyous Simchas Torah dancing with rabbinical guests.
