Throughout the year, the Back To The Future Rosh Chodesh Program at BYQ has been highlighting a famous woman each month. The girls have become familiar with these role models, learning about their outstanding midos and the mitzvos close to their hearts. Each month, they received a card with a picture of the woman on one side and important facts about her on the other. The girls have been collecting these cards and placing them in a plastic card sleeve.
The last Back To The Future Rosh Chodesh Program for Rosh Chodesh Sivan featured Rebbetzin Batsheva Kanievsky, who truly encapsulated all the mitzvos, midos tovos, and maasim tovim that the girls have been focusing on throughout the program.
Mrs. Jurkowitz, limudei kodesh principal, addressed the girls in a video, sharing her memories of Rebbetzin Kanievsky and expressing the love and warmth she felt in the Rebbetzin’s presence. She spoke about the illustrious Elyashiv home, where the Rebbetzin was raised, and the home permeated with Torah that she built and shared with the Gadol HaDor, Rav Chaim Kanievsky zt”l.
The girls were then fortunate to watch a video, taken by Mrs. Jurkowitz 12 years ago, of Rebbetzin Kanievsky addressing the girls of BYQ. She spoke about the great importance and power of t’filah. It was a very special experience.
Mrs. Taub, midos program coordinator, then explained the details of the accompanying activity. Rebbetzin Kanievsky stressed the mitzvah of Hafrashas Challah and opened her home to the public each Thursday to accompany her in this mitzvah. Each girl made a Hafrashas Challah cover to place on the challah dough as it rises. The girls did a fantastic job. We hope the covers will enhance and beautify this mitzvah at home.
Besides receiving a card of Rebbetzin Kanievsky, each student also received a “mirror” card. The girls were asked to fill in their Hebrew name, Hebrew birth date, and mitzvos that are close to their hearts. As we all aspire to emulate the exceptional women that we have highlighted this year, the card signifies each girl’s capacity to be that special woman!
The Back To The Future Rosh Chodesh Program was a huge success! A special thank you goes to Morah Tehilla Ben-Ari for all her work on the program. The girls have truly been enriched by looking back and learning from women of the past. We hope they incorporate the lessons learned and emulate their ways as they become the future women of klal Yisrael.
