Earlier this month, Assemblymember Daniel Rosenthal joined the Met Council on a social services trip to Israel.

Met Council, the nation’s largest Jewish charity and New York-based social services provider, spearheaded the mission to gain perspective on Israel’s poverty relief efforts through the pandemic. As Chair of the NYS Assembly Task Force on Food and Nutrition Policy, Rosenthal met with various organizations to better understand innovative food insecurity policies employed in the region.

The group met with both non-profits and government officials to explore policy proposals, gain insight into new food delivery methods, and to build bridges between Israeli and New York-based groups. Rosenthal also met with various Knesset members and cabinet ministers to learn about Israel’s strong response to COVID-19 and how to achieve greater success in New York. This timely meeting comes on the heels of rising rates of transmission in the US, due to the fast-spreading Delta variant.

“It was an absolute privilege to join the Met Council on this trip, where we got to witness firsthand Israel’s response to the pandemic,” said Assemblymember Daniel Rosenthal. “Through innovative policies and a strong network of social service providers, Israel was able to combat poverty and food insecurity, as well as curb the spread of this deadly disease. New York stands to learn much by continuing to maintain strong ties with Israel and join together in eradicating food insecurity around the world.”
