Police are investigating a late-night shooting outside a law office near Union Turnpike and 189th Street in Fresh Meadows, where surveillance footage reportedly captured a masked gunman firing at a person seated inside a parked vehicle.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:57 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, outside the office of attorney Enessa Mullakandov, according to preliminary information circulated by the Bukharian Community news page and other local reports. The assailant reportedly approached the vehicle, fired at least two shots and escaped in a gray sedan.
Publicly available reports have not identified the intended target, established a motive or confirmed that anyone was struck. No arrest had been announced as of publication. The incident has not been classified as a hate crime, and there is presently no verified basis to connect the gunfire to the Jewish identity of the surrounding community or the ownership of the professional office.
The shooting occurred during a period of heightened unease among Jewish and Bukharian residents following several unrelated incidents across Queens, but proximity alone does not establish motive. Investigators must determine whether the attack arose from a personal dispute, criminal activity or another cause.
The commercial stretch of Union Turnpike serves residents of Fresh Meadows, Hillcrest, Jamaica Estates and surrounding neighborhoods and remains active well into the evening. Gunfire at a professional office along that corridor is therefore a serious public-safety concern regardless of the eventual motive.
Anyone who was in the area around the time of the shooting should review vehicle cameras, doorbell recordings and commercial surveillance systems. Even footage that does not show the gunman may capture the gray getaway vehicle before or after the attack.
